Final Complete Team Statistics

The Salvation Army marched to victory over Mo’Yeah on Sunday to capture the A division championship. The A Team didn’t need B.A. Baracus like strength to take down Mo’Yeah, just a few well timed hits. The A Team jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, aided, once again, by defense lapses by Mo’Yeah. Despite playing its best defensive game of the season, committing only two errors, the two they made proved costly, as they led to four unearned runs. Down 5-2 going into the fifth inning, Mo’Yeah staged a rally to pull within one run, based on solid contact hitting. However, the A Team answered with an insurance run in the sixth, putting the game away.
For the first time all season, the Mo’Yeah bats fell silent, as the team only put together 4 runs, all on singles. The team had no extra base hits for the first time. Four starters failed to record a hit, including clean up hitter Bennie Chau. Leaving seven runners on base also did not help the Mo’Yeah cause. Heading into the offseason, Mo’Yeah will look to re-tool in order to make another championship run.

Statistics current through the first seven games.

Reeling after its first loss of the season at the tail end of a doubleheader to Cornerstone, Mo’Yeah was blown out for the first time all season. Cornerstone Trinity soundly defeated Mo’Yeah 15 to 8. Trinity’s defense held the powerful Mo’Yeah bats silent through the first three innings. By that time, Trinity had put up 4 runs. The highlight came in the fifth inning where Trinity scored 7 runs, without any outs recorded. Again, it was the defense that failed Mo’Yeah. Four more errors led to five unearned runs. The loss drops the team into the middle of the pack at 2 and 2.
Despite the tough loss, Jason Quintal continued his possible MVP season, going 4 for 4, and blasting his third home run of the season. Also performing on the offense end was rookie Dennis Chen, with his first ever three hit game, but also included his fourth consecutive game with an error. On the down side, the Mo’Yeah girls had a tough time getting their offense started. Pitchers Danny Ng and Cal Poon shut out the Mo’Yeah girls, who went a combined 0 for 11. Mo’Yeah will look to rebound in its next game.
Diamond Notes:
-Bennie had a rare two base sacrifice fly, as Ben Lee used his turbo speed to score from second base on a fly ball caught by a girl.
-Jason also had his team leading fourth double. No one else has more than one.
-Cal Poon joined the strikeout club, going down on four pitches.
-Dennis Chen and Allan Lem both had their first extra base hits of the season, each recording a double.
On June 26, Mo’Yeah went down in defeat for the first time all season in the tail end of its double header. Squaring off against Cornerstone, the game was yet another slugfest. The game featured three Mo’Yeah home runs, as Jason Quintal and Bennie Chau hit their second of the season, and Pat Poon launched his first. Jumping out to an early 13-8 lead, Mo’Yeah looked to be cruising. However, it was defense lapses that finally caught up to them as their bats went silent. Scoring only two runs after the fourth inning, Mo’Yeah defenders committed 6 errors, including two by Bennie Chau, that led to 8 unearned runs. With the lead going into the final frame, the defense choked away the win as Cornerstone scored 4 in the top of the seventh. Despite an attempted rally, Mo’Yeah was handed its first defeat of the year.
The loss wasted Pat Poon’s 3 for 3 performance, and the generally strong offensive performance up and down the lineup. Every starter had a hit in the game. With the doubleheader split, Mo’Yeah has a long layoff until July 17 for its next game against CTBC Trinity.
Diamond Notes:
-There were two strikeouts in the game: Danny Ng and Jenny Quintal both went down after four pitches.
-Cal Poon did not bat and pitched a complete game, raising his season ERA to 16.46.
-Rookie Dennis Chen committed his third error in three games.

Mo’Yeah’s offensive early season explosion continued on in its second game of the season. Game two, the first of a scheduled doubleheader, was simply a romp as CBF defeated the FCBC Faith by a score of 21 to 13. Highlighting the team’s offensive efforts once again was Roger Yien, who added three more hits and three more RBI to his impressive early season totals. Not to be outdone, Bennie Chau and Jason Quintal both knocked their first home runs of the season. With hits flying around, it was no surprise that the ladies got in on the act as well. In her first action of the year, Shellee Poon went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Starting pitcher Calvin Poon continued to get bombed, and even relief pitcher Danny Ng, was able to get lit up for 7 runs in a mere inning and two thirds.
Again the strong offensive output masked the many defensive failings of the Mo’Yeah team. Combining for 6 total errors, the team’s fielding woes continued. Roger, while being the offensive star, continues to be the defense goat, bringing his season error total to three. However, so long as the team keeps bombing away, it simply won’t matter. Our report on the second game of the double header to follow.
Notes:
-Kenny Ko was the only player to not record a hit. He was 0 for 1 in his lone plate appearance.
-Peony Cheung’s triple is the longest extra base hit ever recorded by a female player. No female has ever hit a home run.

In the first game of the season, Mo’Yeah set the tone early with a decisive 10 to 5 win over the Full Life Christian Center Autobots. Highlighted by a 7 run third inning, the game was in hand early. In his second at bat of the season, Roger Yien blasted his first home run of the season, a grand slam off of Calvin Poon, on a 285 foot drive to left field. Ben Lee also showed improved power, hitting an RBI triple. Reports are that Lee engaged in an intensive offseason training program with Tony Horton to bulk up. He has denied any allegations of performance enhancers, instead giving credit to Horton’s P90x system. Jason Quintal made the other major offensive contribution, with a double and two RBI. The smaller pink balls for females also aided in the offense explosion. Peony Cheung delivered three hits, and Stephanie Wo added two, making the ladies 5 for 9 on the season.
On the defensive side of the ball, it was more of the same from Mo’Yeah. The stellar offensive output hid the fact that the team committed eight errors, with Allan Lem leading the way with three. Nonetheless, Mo’Yeah also took full advantage of the Autobots’ errors, including four errors by the opposing shortstop, leading to three unearned runs. The undefeated Mo’Yeah continue play in two weeks, on June 26, at Gellert Park, with a double header against Cornerstone and First Chinese Baptist Church.
Diamond Notes
-Rookie Dennis Chen made his first ever appearance and at bat, reaching on an error by the shortstop and playing two innings in the field.
-Ben Lee made a rare appearance as pitcher in the game.
-The only regulars who did not participate in the offensive explosion were Jenny Leung and Calvin Poon, who went hitless.
